Good morning, this is Dr. George Boris and I am going to be doing today CO2 laser of the face. I have started doing CO2 laser when they first came out, and the FDA approved it here in the United States, and early on, when I was doing it, they had clearance in France for use of the CO2 laser, so the company sent me to France, and I introduced a CO2 laser technology into the French community. And in the nineties, we were doing five to ten faces a day with the CO2 laser. There are a lot of other usages of a CO2 laser in addition to the face, but it really transformed, I had women who were in their fifties and sixties who look like they were thirty. It was just a miracle, the work we got, and recovery was predictable, everything was predictable, and I don’t think anyone has had as much experience with the CO2 laser as I have.
You know, I have been doing cosmetic surgery now for fifty years, so I am pretty good at what I do, but the CO2 laser was one incredible advent and instrument that really allows us to make people look so much different and natural, it is a total natural look. It is very predictable, and you will see it today. I mean, the results usually take a week to two weeks to see it. The first week people don’t look that good, but the worst people look right after surgery, the better the results. We even had issues where, if people have developed any kind of viral or bacterial infection of the face, the results would even be better. It was just unbelievable how even complications, which are very rare, when they occur, make the results even better, but it was a learning curve, we didn’t realize, for instance, that in Los Angeles, for instance, fifty percent, sixty percent of people have, within their blood, the herpes virus and whenever there is any disruption like on the skin when you are doing a CO2 laser for instance, herpes takes hold and you get a herpetic reaction. So routinely, we have learned that we have to give patients, all patients now because most people, a lot of patients, don’t know they have it. So we put everyone on antiviral, antibacterial medicine, so we don’t get these complications we originally had. That was the learning curve in perfecting this technology, and, you know, I’m really happy when I do it because I know patients, with everything I do, I think patients are very happy and we have hundreds of five-star reviews, and I think it is because we do great work here and, but with CO2 laser we get a homerun. And it, of course, can be combined with facelifting, eyelid surgery, and other surgeries at the same time. So we are going to start today.
So we are really going to take out old dead skin and new skin will form, from the deeper layers, and it is just going to look so well, it is going to take out a lot of wrinkles, pigmentation changes, and everything is going to be very homogeneous and very tight, and you will see, as I do this, it tightens the skin as I go along so skin is going to get tight, almost like giving a facelift at the same time.
So right now we have completed the old CO2 laser on the face, we have taken out the old skin that was just colored, and what it did is not only take out that tissue but it also stimulated the elastin in the remaining skin that we have to tighten it. So the skin of the face is tightened, the old skin is taken off, and so everything heals. It is going to take a week, she is going to look fantastic, fabulous. She is going to get, this is a home run, she got a great result.
