Top 6 Differences Between BBL and Butt Implants

What is the Difference Between a Fat Transfer BBL & Butt Implants
Table of Contents

BBL fat transfer and butt implant surgeries are the two most often requested forms of butt augmentation techniques that attract numerous patients every year. Many of them still have issues in deciding which of these two forms is the best fit for them.

The increasing popularity of the procedure includes advanced research and the development of new ways to provide the best possible results to patients. Even though both procedures are widely used, the difference is not always obvious. Sometimes it is very challenging to decide which procedure can give you a bigger, rounder, and more natural look.

Therefore, we have decided to dedicate this blog to discussing the differences, benefits, and possible risks that seeking any of these two procedures might bring to the table.

Brazilian Butt Lift (BBL)

Brazilian Butt Lift is a popular procedure that was named after its creator Ivo Pitanguy – a Brazilian plastic surgeon. The BBL procedure is based on the fat graft that is administered to the buttocks area.

BBL is used to increase the size or improve the shape of your butt. Grafted fat is evenly distributed so that the shape of your backside goes along with your silhouette. During the procedure, extra skin is also removed, creating a natural and more youthful appearance.

The biggest advantage of BBL, which instantly gave it such great popularity, is the fact that the results are more natural. Additionally, since the fat is transferred from one part of your body to the other, your body will be able to adapt to it faster and accept it faster.

Lastly, the biggest impact on the overall appearance that the Brazilian Butt Lift has, is that it requires taking fat from the abdomen, thighs, or hips which results not only in a natural-looking butt lift, but also in the liposuction of another problem area.

Butt Implants

Butt augmentation using implants is very similar to breast implants. They are usually filled with silicone, designed to endure pressure and stress without flattening out or losing shape. Because butt implants come in a variety of shapes, sizes, and textures it is up to the patient to choose from all the options available on the market.

So far, the best technique developed for butt augmentation using implants is to place them on top of the muscle.  this way the whole butt is affected and scarring is minimal and barely visible. This procedure can also be combined with fat grafting for more natural-looking results.

Typically, implants add volume, which cannot be fully done using fat graft alone. The fat graft, therefore, provides limited results or at least some of the results that you may have been seeking. Overall, silicone implants have been used extensively in cosmetic surgery and therefore have been proven effective. Implants are usually the choice for people who have little fat, which makes Brazilian Butt Lift impossible.

Main differences

Method

As noted above, the main difference between the Brazilian Butt Lift and Butt implants lies in “tools” used to reach an augmented look.

Brazilian Butt Lift uses your own fat, unlike implants, which are foreign tissue, and therefore the body takes a bit more time to adapt to them.

Incisions

Another important factor that needs to be observed is the length of incisions. The butt lift using implants creates an incision that is hidden but still extensive. Brazilian butt lift only needs a few small incisions when liposuction is performed in order to graft the fat, which is then injected into the buttocks without incisions or scars produced.

Results

Results from those two procedures also differ from one another. Brazilian Butt Lift as mentioned above, can offer you double results: butt augmentation as well as liposuction, making the results of treatment even more noticeable.

On the other hand, butt implants also give amazing results, especially when fat grafting is not possible. Another most common reason why patients choose butt implants over Brazilian Butt Lift is that the results are more lasting. As time passes, the shape of the buttocks can change due to natural aging processes. However, butt implants remain in place and can help you to retain a youthful look if you maintain your weight and a healthy lifestyle.

Recovery

Recovery is a big concern when deciding which of the two procedures to undergo. Brazilian Butt Lift requires you to limit sitting in the early weeks after the treatment and taking a couple of weeks off is usually a good idea in order to give your body some time to recover.

Considering that butt augmentation is a more extensive surgery, your recovery time is likely to be longer than after a Brazilian Butt Lift. The average amount of downtime for both BBL and augmentation with implants ranges between  10 and  14 days, but smaller wounds generally mean that you will have less pain and discomfort during recovery.

It is important to keep in mind that sitting must be reintroduced gradually for both, BBL and butt lift surgery, as it is imperative to keep the pressure off the operated area.

Risks

It is a known fact that no surgical procedure is 100% safe, therefore anyone opting for an aesthetic procedure must realize that there are risks associated with cosmetic surgery as well.  One of the biggest problems with Brazilian Butt Lift is that the body can reabsorb back too much fat. This can cause you not to achieve the effect that you were looking for, resulting in frustration and dissatisfaction with the procedure ..   Some other side effects may include bleeding, infection, scarring, and asymmetry.

Butt implants also have risks associated with them. One of them is the formation of subjective capsular contracture,  also known as a capsule, around an implant, causing hardening of the area, disformity, and even pain.

Another issue with butt implants is that they can shift or move out of position, creating an unnatural look and discomfort. If any of such happens, a revision surgery will be necessary, which is another potential undesirable result of butt augmentation using implants that is not seen with BBL.

Verdict

What is left to conclude is that both procedures have their pros and cons, limitations to the results that can be achieved, their associated risks, and the recovery process. Therefore, it is always best to consult with your surgeon before finalizing your choice, considering all factors at play, such as the time you can take off, the result you would like to achieve, and the risks you are willing to take.
