Breast Lift

Breast lift cosmetic surgery (mastopexy) is a common, but complex breast enhancement procedure that raises and reshapes sagging breasts in helping restore firmness of your breasts, giving you a perky and full shape look. This will help the overall appearance of your breasts restoring a more youthful breast contour.

Who Needs the Procedure?

A breast lift can be performed with or without the insertion of breast implants to increase breast size, depending on the patient and the look desired.

This procedure is done for a number of reasons:

• Loss of skin elasticity,
• Force of gravity
• Pregnancy
• Weight loss
• Breast-feeding
• Breasts that lack firmness
• Breasts that are pendulous, but of satisfactory size
• Nipples and areolas that point downward
• Breast Lift Procedure

Types of Breast Lift

There are different types of breast lift that are decided based on the condition of the patient and the results one seeks to obtain. The main difference is in the scars on the breasts that stay after the procedure is performed which again does not mean that scars will be visible, as it is the often main concern of the patient.  The most common type is using the cut around your areola and vertically under your breast.

How is the Procedure Performed?

The breast lift surgical procedure will be performed under local anesthesia and or general anesthesia, where surgery is typically two (2) to three (3) hours, however, might take longer in some instances if breast implants are inserted. The procedure is done near the nipple and the bottom of the breast is where excess skin is removed and the breast is repositioned to sit higher. The size of the areola can also be reduced.

If your breasts are small as well as droopy, you can have them enlarged with silicone implants. Having breast implants is the only way to significantly increase fullness above the nipples, but their weight can make the breast droop again over time.

In certain cases, the breasts may have developed differently so that one breast is firm and well positioned while the other is not. There may be differences in the size of your breasts as well as their shape. For example, breasts that are large and heavy can be lifted, but the results may not last as long as smaller breasts, resulting in a natural look.

What to Expect from the Procedure?

During the consultation, our board-certified doctors will also cover how your nipples and areolas will be re-positioned. We will carefully evaluate the size and shape of your breasts in ensuring we are keeping the look you desire in giving you a firmer look while sitting in a better position. You should bring up anything else about your breasts that you would like to see enhanced as this will help our surgeon understand your expectations and determine whether they realistically can be achieved. If you plan to lose a significant amount of weight in the near future, please consult with us as we may advise that you stabilize your weight prior to surgery.
